Where The Wild Things Are!!!

I have never anticipated a movie like I anticipated Spike Jonze’s adaptation of “Where the Wild Things Are.”  Maybe (500) Days of Summer.  No, that would fall second.  Because with (500) I only waited a few months, whereas with Wild Things I waited years.

Anyways, I saw it last night at my favorite movie theater in the city and I loved it.  Love love loved it.  First of all, the imagery and cinematography was breathtaking.  Second, Max Records, who played Max, was perfectly cast.  Third, Jonze and Dave Eggers did a wonderful job with the script.  The story was incredibly sad and happy at the same time.  I felt it perfectly embodied what it feels like to be a kid, or even a teenager.

Lastly, I loved the soundtrack.  Both Karen O.’s compositions and Carter Burwell’s score set the childlike, slightly magical tone for the film.  I know Karen O.’s soundtrack will receive much more attention for it’s name-recognition and the catchier tunes, but Burwell’s score is gorgeous and poignant and should not be overlooked.
